This thrilling 11-day Bhutan motorcycle tour is a unique journey through one of the world’s most mystical and untouched destinations. Starting in Delhi, we take a short flight to Bagdogra and ride into Bhutan via Phuentsoling. From there, the adventure unfolds across dramatic mountain passes, winding valleys, and centuries-old cultural landmarks. We visit Bhutan’s vibrant capital, Thimphu, explore the serene Phobjikha Valley—home to the rare Black-Necked Cranes—and climb the picturesque Dochula and Pele La passes, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas. The ride to Bumthang, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Bhutan,” is packed with rich culture, ancient monasteries like Jambay Lhakhang, and even a local cheese and beer tasting.
As we head east, the tour takes us off the beaten path over the high Trumshing La Pass into Bhutan’s wild and remote regions, eventually descending into the subtropical lowlands of Gelephu. Meandering north through the vibrant heart of Lhotshampa country, we keep watch for the rare golden langur, its golden coat flashing through the trees, before arriving at the spellbinding Punakha Dzong—a riverside masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture and history.—an architectural gem nestled between rivers. From there, we ascend Bhutan’s highest motorable pass, Chele La, unveiling sweeping vistas as we descend into the secluded and serene Haa Valley, eventually arriving in Paro.

Day 1: Gateway to the Dragon Kingdom
Arrival in India & Journey to Bhutan
Touch down in Delhi at 2:30 AM, where the buzz of the capital never really sleeps. A quick nap or coffee later, catch your early domestic flight to Bagdogra at 6:30 AM. As dawn breaks, the real adventure begins. At Bagdogra, we switch gears—literally—and drive toward Phuentsholing, Bhutan’s southern border town nestled against lush green foothills. After completing border formalities, welcome to the Kingdom of Happiness!
The day is yours to relax, acclimate, and soak in the serene shift from Indian bustle to Bhutanese calm. In the evening, we meet our steel steeds and fellow riders over a festive Welcome Dinner. Time to toast the road ahead!
Day 2: Serpentine Roads to the Capital
Phuentsholing ➝ Thimphu | 180 km
After breakfast, we ease into the ride, but not for long—the roads quickly twist and climb as we ascend into Bhutan’s mountainous heart. Following the Wang Chu River, we carve through gorges, pass prayer-flag-laced ridges, and ascend above 2,000 meters.
By afternoon, we roll into Thimphu, the quirky and charming capital where monks in robes rub shoulders with civil servants. At 2,330 meters, the city feels more like a laid-back alpine village. Tonight, dine on local delicacies and perhaps enjoy a bar-hop through what is surely the world’s most peaceful capital.
Day 3: Sacred Peaks & Black Cranes
Thimphu ➝ Phobjikha Valley | 140 km
The day begins with a ride to the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, the 54-meter golden statue gazing over Thimphu Valley like a guardian. Next, we visit Semtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest fortress-monastery, before we climb skyward through 108 chortens atop Dochu La Pass (3,450m).
Beyond the pass, we veer off the main road into the hidden Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the rare black-necked cranes. Visit Gangtey Monastery, and depending on our arrival time, take a tranquil stroll through meadows blanketed in mist. Overnight at 2,800 meters in a remote lodge that feels like a world away.
Day 4: Bumthang, Bhutan’s Alpine Gem
Phobjikha ➝ Bumthang | 160 km
Today’s ride is nothing short of a dream. We snake our way through the evergreen beauty of the Black Forest Mountains, crossing the Pele La Pass (3,300m), then descend to the remarkable Chendebji Chorten. The road continues to wind upward again until we summit Yotong La Pass (3,425m) and finally roll into Bumthang, the cultural heartland of Bhutan.
Explore historic temples like Jambay Lhakhang and Tamshing Gompa, sample local cheese and wheat beer at a Swiss-Bhutanese microbrewery, and cap off the evening with dinner by a crackling campfire under the stars. This is where Bhutan’s spirit shines brightest.
Day 5: Into Bhutan’s Untamed East
Bumthang ➝ Mongar region (via Ura) | ~180 km
Today we dive into Bhutan’s lesser-known wild east—an area few tourists ever see. Ride through varying ecosystems, from pine forests to misty moss-draped valleys, crossing the mighty Thrumshing La Pass (3,789m). Along the way, we’ll pause in Ura, a quaint village known for its unique architecture and deeply rooted traditions.
The Ura Pass (3,500m) offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks before we descend into one of the most remote regions in the country. This is Bhutan at its rawest and most authentic.
Day 6: Off the Grid
Eastern Bhutan ➝ Gelephu | 190 km
Today calls for an adventurous dawn—we’re venturing into the heart of Bhutan’s most untouched and mysterious landscapes.Paved roads give way to dirt tracks, narrow trails, and forest corridors. We traverse remote valleys and rugged landscapes, crossing mountain passes that feel forgotten by time.
Eventually, we descend toward Gelephu, a subtropical town on Bhutan’s southern border. Here, banana plants and palm trees replace pines, and the Manas River whispers of Assam just beyond the horizon. It feels like another country—and in a way, it is.
Day 7: Land of Golden Langurs
Gelephu ➝ Punakha | ~190 km
After descending into the plains, we begin our climb once more—ascending the winding roads of central Bhutan. Today, we enter Lhotshampa territory, home to Bhutanese of Nepalese descent. Keep your eyes peeled for golden langurs, rare and majestic monkeys with gleaming fur.
By afternoon, we reach the glorious Punakha Dzong, framed between two rivers and adorned with wooden balconies and whitewashed walls. It’s Bhutan’s most picturesque fortress and a fitting end to another epic day of riding.
Day 8: Over the Clouds to Haa
Punakha ➝ Haa Valley via Chele La Pass | 180 km
An unforgettable ride awaits as we ascend Bhutan’s highest motorable road: the Chele La Pass (3,988m). On a clear day, you’ll see sweeping views of the Haa Valley and snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The descent leads us into the peaceful and less-traveled Haa Valley, a spiritual place shrouded in myth and home to the Dobji Monastery.
We continue to Paro, where our charming boutique hotel welcomes us with Bhutanese hospitality and mountain luxury.
Day 9: Pilgrimage to the Tiger’s Nest
Paro Exploration
No trip to Bhutan is complete without a trek to the legendary Taktsang Monastery, or Tiger’s Nest. Perched 900 meters above the Paro Valley, this sacred site is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The 4-5 hour hike winds through pine forests, fluttering prayer flags, and mystical viewpoints.
Not feeling up for the trek? No worries—we can arrange a gentle cultural tour of Paro, with visits to Drukgyel Dzong, local markets, and artisan shops. The evening is yours to relax, reflect, and maybe find that perfect souvenir.
Day 10: Farewell, Bhutan
Paro ➝ Indian Border | 160 km
With one last cruise along the Wang Chu River, we make our way back to the Indian border. The ride is mellow but scenic, perfect for reliving memories from the days before. Upon arrival, we celebrate with a Goodbye Dinner, raising a toast to the mountains, the roads, and the bonds forged in the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
Day 11: Return to Delhi
Gelephu ➝ Bagdogra ➝ Delhi
After breakfast, we hop into a private taxi and head to Bagdogra airport for our return flight to Delhi. From here, your international flight can depart any time after 8:00 PM. Tashi Delek and safe travels—until next time.
