Day 01 : Arrive Phuentsholing
Kick off your journey in the vibrant border town of Phuentsholing, where the plains of India meet the rising grandeur of the Himalayas, offering a dynamic gateway into the heart of Bhutan.After completing immigration formalities and settling into your hotel, dive into the vibrant cultural fusion of Indian, Bhutanese, and Nepalese influences that defines this gateway town. Pay a visit to Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang, a serene temple embodying the celestial realm of Guru Rinpoche. As evening falls, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the bustling local market, relishing the rich sights, sounds, and flavors of this charming border hub. Spend the night in Phuentsholing, situated at an altitude of 300 meters.
Day 02 : Phuentsholing – Paro (175km, approx. 5 hours ride)
On the second day, after a hearty breakfast, gear up for an unforgettable ride to Paro. The journey takes you uphill through mesmerizing landscapes, with highlights including a stop at Kharbandi Gompa, a serene monastery surrounded by tropical gardens, and a visit to Gedu University, which offers stunning photo opportunities. As you pass through quaint locales like Chimakothi and Chuzom, where the Paro and Thimphu rivers converge, the scenic beauty will keep you captivated. Upon arriving in Paro, indulge in a delicious lunch before embarking on a cultural exploration. Visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower now housing Bhutan’s National Museum, and marvel at Rinpung Dzong, an iconic fortress featured in the film Little Buddha. Conclude the day with a stroll through Paro’s vibrant markets, showcasing exquisite Bhutanese textiles and handicrafts. Stay overnight in Paro, located at an altitude of 2,280 meters.
Day 03 : Paro
Day three unfolds with a journey into the spiritual heart of Bhutan as you embark on a trek to Taktshang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest. Dramatically clinging to a sheer cliff, this legendary site commands awe-inspiring vistas and embodies the spiritual essence of Bhutan’s rich cultural legacy. Later in the day, take a ride to the historic Drukgyel Dzong, whose ruins stand against the magnificent backdrop of snow-capped Chomolhari. After a relaxing lunch in the charming town of Haa, explore its ancient treasures, including Lhakhang Karpo, the White Temple, and Lhakhang Nagpo, the Black Temple. Continue your journey through tranquil pine forests and idyllic villages, arriving in Thimphu by evening. Here, if time permits, visit Trashichho Dzong, an architectural marvel that embodies Bhutanese history and spirituality. Stay overnight in Thimphu, resting at an altitude of 2,320 meters.
Day 05 : Thimphu – Punakha (75km, approx. 2.1/2 hours ride)
Day five starts with an exploration of Thimphu Valley, where cultural landmarks await. Begin with Kuensel Phodrang, home to the imposing Buddha Dordenma statue, which offers magnificent views of the valley. Then visit the Memorial Chorten, a revered monument built to honor Bhutan’s third king. After lunch, embark on an exhilarating ride to Punakha via the stunning Dochula Pass, adorned with 108 stupas and offering panoramic views of the Bhutanese Himalayas. Upon arrival in Punakha, immerse yourself in its rich history and charm. Day 06 : Punakha – Gangtey (85km, approx. 3 hours ride)
Embark on the sixth day of your adventure with a ride to Wangdue, where you can explore the fascinating ruins of Wangduephodrang Dzong. Nearby, a short hike will lead you to the clustered Rinchengang Village, offering an authentic glimpse into local life. Continuing your journey through the mystical Black Mountains, you’ll arrive at Gangtey, home to the historic Gangtey Gompa. This sacred monastery is steeped in Bhutanese spiritual lineage. As the day unfolds, discover the stunning Phobjikha Valley, a breathtaking glacial plain known as a winter sanctuary for the rare Black-Necked Cranes. The day concludes with an overnight stay in Gangtey, which lies at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
Day 07 : Gangtey – Trongsa – Bumthang (153km, approx. 6 hours ride)
On the seventh day, gear up for a thrilling ride through two awe-inspiring mountain passes—Pelela and Yutongla—offering jaw-dropping vistas of waterfalls, forests, and winding roads. Upon arriving in Trongsa, immerse yourself in its storied past by exploring the commanding Trongsa Dzong—an architectural masterpiece of strategic and historical importance—and Ta Dzong, a former watchtower now elegantly reimagined as a cultural museum.. As the journey continues to Bumthang, pause to visit the Yathra weaving center in Chumey Valley, where traditional textile art comes to life. After a scenic ride, you’ll settle into Bumthang, a serene valley located at an altitude of 2,680 meters.
Day 08 : Bumthang
Day eight is dedicated to exploring Bumthang, often referred to as the Switzerland of Bhutan due to its alpine beauty. Surrounded by hills adorned with monasteries and prayer flags, the valley provides a tranquil yet enriching experience. Highlights of the day include visiting the iconic Jakar Dzong, the Tamshing Lhakhang with its rich history, and the sacred Membartsho, or Burning Lake, a site of deep spiritual significance. You’ll find yourself immersed in the serene landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage, with plenty of opportunities to interact with the warm-hearted locals.
Day 09 : Bumthang – Mongar (196km, approx. 7 hours ride)
The ninth day takes you eastward to Mongar, traversing Bhutan’s highest motorable pass, Thrumshing-la, situated at an astounding 4,000 meters. Along the way, visit Ura Village, known for its medieval charm and cobbled streets, and marvel at the stunning scenery featuring cascading waterfalls and diverse vegetation. The descent into the Sengor Valley reveals subtropical beauty before ascending once again to Mongar, a quaint town perched on a gentle slope. This leg of the journey is both picturesque and invigorating, ending with an overnight stay in Mongar.
Day 10 : Mongar – Trashigang (96km, approx. 3 hours ride)
On day ten, the ride continues to Trashigang, taking you through scenic landscapes and charming villages. Begin the day with a visit to the Mongar Dzong, a unique structure symbolizing Bhutanese artistry and spirituality. Crossing the Korila Pass, you’ll weave through the mesmerizing Yadi loops and lush forests, eventually reaching the mountain town of Trashigang. The town’s vibrant ambiance and its historic Trashigang Dzong provide the perfect end to the day, offering insights into Bhutanese culture and history.
Day 11 : Trashigang To Samdrup Jongkhar (180km, approx. 6 hours ride)
Day eleven marks the final stretch of your motorbiking adventure as you journey from Trashigang to Samdrup Jongkhar. Along the way, visit Sherubtse College, Bhutan’s premier institution for higher education, and Khaling’s Blind School and Weaving Center, which showcase local craftsmanship and dedication. The ride takes you through tropical forests teeming with teak and bamboo, ultimately descending into the lively town of Samdrup Jongkhar. Day 12 : Return to India (Guwahati, Assam)
