Day 3: Thimphu To Punakha. Pass The Beautiful Dochu La.

Your road trip unveils its first gem at Dochu La, one of Bhutan’s most scenic mountain passes. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking panorama of the Himalayas while savoring a hot cup of tea or coffee at the pass’s charming cafe. Take a moment to appreciate the serenity and grandeur that surrounds you. Witness the tribute to Bhutanese soldiers who sacrificed their lives in “Operation All Clear” in 2003 through the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, a solemn and moving experience.
Embark on a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the “temple of fertility.” Dedicated to Lam Drukpa Kuenley, the Divine Mad Man, this temple is the origin of phalluses as symbols of fertility and protection. Couples seeking blessings for conception often visit this sacred site.

The hike, lasting 2-4 hours depending on your pace, offers breathtaking views as you ascend to the monastery clinging to a sheer cliff face, 900 meters above the valley.
