Day 1: Arrive in Paro

Arrive in Paro and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day exploring Paro town and acclimatizing to the altitude.

 

Day 2: Paro to Trashigang

Take a scenic drive from Paro to Trashigang, the gateway to the Merak valley. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas as you journey through Bhutan’s eastern region.

 

Day 3: Trashigang to Merak

Travel to the Merak valley, home of the Brokpas. Experience the unique culture and way of life of this semi-nomadic community as you settle into your accommodations.

 

Day 4-6: Merak Tshechu Festival

Attend the annual Merak Tshechu Festival at the Merak Lhakhang. Witness traditional dances, including the Ache Lhamo and Yak dance, performed exclusively by the Brokpas. Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere and enjoy merry-making with the locals.

 

Day 7: Explore Merak Valley

Spend a day exploring the Merak valley. Visit local households to learn about yak rearing and animal husbandry, which are central to the Brokpas’ way of life. Experience the breathtaking natural beauty of the valley and immerse yourself in its pristine wilderness.

 

Day 8: Merak to Trashigang

Bid farewell to the Brokpas and return to Trashigang. Take in the scenic landscapes of eastern Bhutan during the journey back.

 

Day 9: Trashigang Sightseeing

Explore Trashigang town and visit nearby attractions, such as Trashigang Dzong and Rangjung Monastery. Learn about the history and culture of the region.

 

Day 10: Departure

Transfer to the airport in Paro for your departure flight, taking with you unforgettable memories of the Merak Tshechu Festival and the enchanting Merak valley.
