About Nomad Festival

The Nomad Festival is an annual gathering of Bhutan that brings together pastoralists from the northeastern and northwestern Himalayan ranges to celebrate their unique culture and traditions. It offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of Bhutan’s nomadic mountaineers, who have preserved their customs for generations. Attendees can enjoy traditional dishes cooked on stone hearths, try on Bhutanese highlander costumes made from yak hair, and participate in various cultural activities.

Nomad Festival Schedule:

 

Day 1: Arrive in Paro, Transfer to Thimphu
– Visit Tashichhoe Dzong and Government-run Handicrafts Emporium in Thimphu.

 

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing
– Explore Kuenselphodrang, Bhutan Post Office Headquarters, and National Textile Museum.
– Visit Traditional Bhutanese paper making factory, National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Takin Preserve, and National Memorial Chorten.

 

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha and Wangdue
– Travel to Punakha via Dochula Pass and visit Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakhang.

 

Day 4: Punakha to Trongsa
– Journey to Trongsa and visit Trongsa National Museum and Trongsa Dzong.

 

Day 5: Trongsa to Bumthang
– Drive to Bumthang and visit Yathra weaving center, Jampa Lhakhang, Kujey Lhakhang, and Jakar Dzong.

 

Day 6: Nomad Festival
– Attend the Nomad Festival in Bumthang and engage in cultural activities and interactions.

 

Day 7: Bumthang to Wangdue via Phobjikha
– Travel to Phobjikha Valley and visit Gangtey Monastery and Black Necked Crane Center.

 

Day 8: Wangdue to Paro
– Journey to Paro and visit Rinpung Dzong, farmhouses, and Ta Dzong.

 

Day 9: Hike to Tiger’s Nest
– Hike up to Taktsang Monastery and visit Kyichu temple.

 

Day 10: Departure from Paro
– Transfer to the airport for onward flight.
