What is SDF? is it compulsory?

In Regards Bhutan, SDF is Sustainable Development Fee. It is a mandatory daily fee imposed on tourists visiting Bhutan, For foreign National Charges $200/ Per Person and Regional Country like India, Bangladesh, Maldives  Charged INR 1200/ Per Person.  For Child  50% of adult fee.
