Punakha Lodge is a unique and luxurious accommodation located in Bhutan, a beautiful Himalayan country known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The lodge is situated in a subtropical valley that produces a significant portion of the nation’s vegetables, making it a fertile and vibrant area.
To reach Punakha Lodge, visitors must cross a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River, which is adorned with colorful prayer flags, adding to the cultural charm of the place. The lodge itself is a blend of traditional Bhutanese architecture and modern comforts, incorporating a farmhouse that was originally built by a former Je Khenpo, the chief abbot of Bhutan.
The lodge offers a variety of suites, eight of which have the same design as the suites at Amankora Paro, another prestigious lodge in Bhutan. These suites provide picturesque views across an orange orchard and rice terraces, offering a peaceful and scenic experience to guests. Each of these suites comes equipped with a king-size bed, a traditional wood-burning stove, and comfortable banquette window-seats. The bathrooms in these suites are elegantly designed with terrazzo-clad bathtubs, twin vanities, and a separate shower and toilet.
Additionally, Punakha Lodge features four exclusive Mo Chhu Suites, which are located in a new building. Two of these suites boast spacious separate living areas, providing ample space for relaxation and privacy. For larger groups or families, these Mo Chhu Suites can be combined to create two two-bedroom units, accommodating more guests.
With its rich history, stunning natural surroundings, and luxurious amenities, Punakha Lodge offers a truly memorable and authentic experience for visitors exploring the wonders of Bhutan. It is also worth noting that this area serves as the winter retreat for the Bhutanese royals, adding an extra touch of prestige and importance to the location
