Taktsang, translating to “Tiger’s Nest” (where Tak means Tiger and Tsang means Nest), is one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites, deeply rooted in Vajrayana Buddhism. This revered monastery is closely linked to the Second Buddha and the renowned Tantric Master, Guru Padmasambhava, also known as “The Lotus Born.” Perched dramatically in the cliffs of Paro, it resembles a castle suspended in the sky. According to legend, Guru Padmasambhava flew to this location on the back of a tigress from Bhutan’s eastern regions, which inspired the name Taktsang.
